Frequently Asked Questions – Ice Skating Classes Near Orlando
We welcome skaters starting at age 4. Our youngest class — Snowplow Sam — is specifically designed for preschool-age children with no skating experience. From there, classes progress through Basic Skills levels for elementary and middle school ages, Teen/Adult tracks for older skaters, and advanced Aspire program tracks for skaters pursuing figure skating development. There is no upper age limit for our Teen/Adult classes.
Monthly tuition is $89/month for one class per week or $135/month for two classes per week. A one-time annual registration fee of $45 covers your Learn to Skate USA membership, secondary sports accident insurance, a record book, and access to US Figure Skating programs and events. Skate rental for class is free — a $40/month value included in your tuition.
No. Skate rental is free for all enrolled students — a $40/month value. You can use rental skates indefinitely while your child gets started. When they’re ready to move to their own pair, our coaches and pro shop staff can help guide the right fit and purchase. Enrolled students also receive a 5% discount on all skate purchases.
Classes meet once or twice per week depending on your enrollment. Available class days are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Each class session is 30 minutes of instruction plus a 15-minute practice session immediately before or after. Your monthly membership also includes 8 complimentary public skating passes per month so your child can practice outside of class time.
Ice skating offers many of the same benefits — physical fitness, balance and coordination, structured skill progression, performance opportunities, and a positive team environment — with a few unique additions. The Learn to Skate USA curriculum provides a nationally recognized skill progression with measurable benchmarks, similar to belt systems in martial arts. Classes are held in a cool environment year-round, and the skills learned transfer to hockey, figure skating, and general athleticism. Many families find it a refreshing alternative to more crowded activity markets. Plus staying cool inside, avoiding the Florida heat, bug and and weather.
New students are placed based on age and prior experience. Children ages 4–5 with no experience start in Snowplow Sam. Children 6 and up with no experience typically start in Basic Skills 1. Teenagers will be in a separate Teen Basic Skills class. If your child has some prior skating experience, contact our enrollment team and we’ll do a quick assessment to place them at the right level. Our beginner classes welcome new students every class day — you don’t need to wait for a specific enrollment window.
A skating class provides structured instruction from a certified Learn to Skate USA coach, a curriculum with defined skill benchmarks, progress tracking via your class lanyard, and a consistent peer group that grows alongside your child. Public sessions are unstructured practice time — great for fun and for the 8 free practice passes included in your membership, but not a substitute for coached skill development.
Yes. Our Teen Basic Skills /Adult curriculum (levels 1–6) is designed specifically for teens and adults at any skill level. All Axel’s Skating School instructors are registered and certified Learn to Skate USA coaches. Every coach meets US Figure Skating’s Continuing Education Requirements and has completed background checks through the SkateSafe program.
