Figure Skates & Expert Fitting Services in Central Florida

Ice Factory is Central Florida's authorized dealer for Jackson, Edea, Riedell, Risport, Graf, and more. Every skate purchase includes free sharpening, free mounting, and a professional fitting — because the right fit changes everything.

Why a Professional Fitting Matters

Buying figure skates is not like buying sneakers. The wrong size, width, or boot model can lead to ankle instability, blisters, and stunted skating development. Figure skates run 1 to 1.5 sizes smaller than street shoes, and the width of your foot matters just as much as the length. A boot that is even half a size too large fails to lock the heel in place, forcing the skater to compensate with their ankle — a habit that is difficult to break and can cause injury over time.

Our professional skate technicians assess every skater individually, taking into account foot shape, arch height, skating level, and goals. We carry a large in-stock inventory so skaters can try on multiple brands and models before making a decision. The $30 fitting fee is applied in full toward your skate purchase.

How Should Figure Skates Fit?

Figure skates run 1 to 1.5 sizes smaller than street shoes, and the width of your foot matters just as much as the length. A properly fitted boot locks the heel firmly in place, wraps the forefoot comfortably without painful pressure points, and allows your toes to barely brush the front of the boot without curling. A boot that is even half a size too large fails to support the ankle, forcing the skater to compensate — a habit that is difficult to break and can cause injury over time.

Our professional skate technicians assess every skater individually, taking into account foot shape, arch height, skating level, and goals. Whether your child is stepping onto the ice for the first time or working toward their first axel, we make sure the equipment supports their development and keeps skating fun.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Ice skates

No. Figure skates typically run 1 to 1.5 sizes smaller than your street shoe size. This is one of the most common mistakes made when buying online. Our fitting appointment ensures you get the correct size for your specific foot shape and width.

For non-jumping skaters (beginners, recreational skaters – Basic/Adult 1 through Basic/Adult 6), a basic fitting focuses on size, width, and comfort. For advanced skaters who have started doing jumps, we also assess ankle support, boot stiffness, and blade positioning to ensure the skate can handle the impact and lateral forces of jumps. Both fittings are free with a skate purchase.

Absolutely. We service all brands and provide sharpening, mounting, boot stretching, heat molding, and other modifications regardless of where the skates were purchased. Skates purchased from us include these services with your setup. Walk-ins are welcome for sharpening (pending staff availability); all other services are by appointment.

For recreational skaters, sharpening every 20–30 hours of ice time is typical. For competitive skaters, sharpening every 10–15 hours is common. Our technicians can advise on the right hollow (sharpening depth) for your skating style.

Yes. We carry a full range from beginner recreational boots to elite competition-level boots and blades. Our authorized brands — Jackson Ultima, Edea, Risport, Riedell, Aura, and Graf — cover every level of skater.

We stand behind every fitting. If your skates feel uncomfortable after your first few sessions on the ice, come back in and we will assess the fit and make adjustments at no charge. Boot break-in is normal, and our technicians are here to help throughout the process.
