Skate Guard
Be the eyes on the ice, the protector of fun, and the reason guests stay safe and smiling.
Public skating sessions are where memories are made — and Skate Guards are the ones who keep it all flowing safely, smoothly, and with energy. You’re not just enforcing rules — you’re creating a safe and welcoming experience, answering questions, stepping in when needed, and sometimes even leading games or doing a little crowd control with style.
If you love skating, thrive in fast-paced environments, and know how to balance authority with friendliness — this is your zone.
What You’ll Do:
Keep the ice safe by enforcing rink rules clearly, politely, and consistently
Monitor guest behavior and skating patterns to prevent unsafe activity before it happens
Ensure Skating Aids (sleds & buckets) are used appropriately.
Help guests when they fall — check on them, guide them safely off the ice, and call for help if needed
Use cones, radios, and clear communication to create a controlled skating flow
Be first on the scene during an accident or emergency — stay calm, direct traffic, and alert the right team
Stay alert, move with purpose, and patrol all areas of the ice (switch positions regularly to stay fresh and effective)
Engage guests — answer questions about programs, direct them to the right places, and make sure they feel seen
Entertain when appropriate — lead simple games, trivia, or icebreaker activities during slower moments
Stay knowledgeable about all skating and hockey programs so you can answer questions or connect guests with the right info
Write detailed, clear incident reports when accidents happen — no guessing, no exaggerating, just the facts
Keep entrances and exits clear, monitor off-ice areas, and communicate with staff about anything that needs attention
Use your voice, your whistle, or your presence to get attention when needed — never aggressive, always in control
Support team members during power outages, evacuations, or other rare but real emergencies
Be the kind of guard guests trust — calm, consistent, and friendly
What You’ll Enforce (Every Session, No Exceptions):
No reckless skating, racing, or weaving through others
No tag, games, food, drinks, or mobile devices on the ice
No figure skating moves except at center ice.
No sitting or leaning on the boards
No carrying children or bags on the ice
No inappropriate behavior or substances — ever
No skates in unauthorized areas
Everyone must keep moving, follow the flow, and follow the vibe
Who You Are:
A confident skater (forward, backward and able to stop) who can patrol while staying alert. Alternatively, if no skating skill, using ice cleats.
Strong communicator — you know how to be firm but polite
Comfortable taking control in tough situations and staying calm under pressure
Reliable, consistent, and ready to lead by example
Friendly and approachable — even while keeping rules in check
Able to recognize when it’s time to teach, time to help, or time to step back and call for backup
Familiar with basic first aid and open to learning emergency protocols
Able to complete reports and relay information accurately
Team player who supports the whole rink operation, not just the ice
Bonus Points If You:
Have previous experience in skating, camps, coaching, or youth programs
Know how to de-escalate tense situations with grace and humor
Are comfortable with a radio, a whistle, and a fast-moving crowd
Have a knack for leading a game of “Red Light, Green Light” or calming a nervous first-timer
Perks of the Role:
Free skate time
Flexible scheduling
Leadership and safety training
A team-first culture where your role truly matters
A paycheck with real purpose
The respect that comes from being a trusted part of a fast-paced operation
This Job Is NOT for You If:
❌ You’re uncomfortable enforcing rules or being assertive
❌ You check out instead of staying alert
❌ You’re not confident on the ice
❌ You freeze up in an emergency
❌ You’d rather stay in one spot than move with the flow
Ready to Lead the Ice?
This role is safety, service, and skating all rolled into one. If you’re ready to help make every public session safe, smooth, and unforgettable, we want you on the ice with us.
Apply now — and take your place where fun meets responsibility.
APPLY NOW!
DJ – Ice Rink Session Host
Own the mic. Read the room. Bring the vibe.
Let’s be real: the energy of a public skate session is only as good as the DJ running it. We’re not looking for someone to push buttons and play top 40. We want a crowd-reading, mic-rocking, beat-dropping entertainer who knows how to keep the floor flowing and the families coming back.
At The Ice Factory, our DJ is more than a music machine — they’re the session host, the voice of the rink, the leader of games, and the heartbeat of every public skate. If you know how to build a mood, shift a vibe, and create that “we’ll be back next weekend” feeling, we want you on the mic.
What You’ll Do:
Curate the soundtrack for every session — blending new hits, classics, and skateable tracks (BPM matters!)
Keep things family-friendly and fun — no inappropriate lyrics, no awkward transitions
Take requests wisely — know when to say yes, when to pivot, and how to mix it into the session flow
Make live announcements that are clear, fun, and engaging — not just “next up: the hokey pokey”
Host games and mini-activities (limbo, dice game, reverse skate, Red Light/Green Light — we’ll train you)
Read the crowd: when to pump them up, when to slow it down, when to clear the ice for safety
Communicate with skate guards and management via radio
Stay alert and jump into emergency mode fast: light the house, clear the ice, manage the moment with calm
Monitor your volume and speaker levels — you’re here to entertain, not blow out eardrums
Keep your DJ booth and area clean, organized, and guest-ready
Support your team: run backup playlists, help with setup, and even take on side tasks like sweeping or helping a guest find their way
Be the kind of personality that makes people look forward to our public sessions
Who You Are:
A natural performer — not afraid of a mic, a crowd, or a little attention
Know your music — you understand tempo, energy, family-appropriate lyrics, and how to build a skateable set
Calm under pressure — whether the floor’s full or there’s only 5 skaters, you still bring your A-game
You’ve got solid timing, instinct, and rhythm — this isn’t a random shuffle playlist gig
You’re collaborative — you work with skate guards, party heroes, and management as one crew
You know how to read a room, pivot the mood, and control the vibe without overpowering it
DJ experience is great — but what matters most is your confidence, music sense, and people skills
Familiar with DJ software? Even better. If not, we’ll show you the ropes. No experience required.
Bonus Perks:
Ice time perks + flexible scheduling
Learn to run full-scale events and develop real entertainment skills
Be the person guests talk about long after the music stops
Team culture that supports you, hypes you up, and makes the work fun
A paycheck, plus all the applause (okay, not literally, but close)
This Role is NOT for You If:
❌ You think DJing is just hitting play
❌ You freeze on the mic or dread talking to people
❌ You don’t care what songs fit a skating vibe
❌ You say yes to every song request without thinking
❌ You can’t work weekends or holidays (because that’s when the rink shines)
Bottom Line:
You are the pulse of the session. If it feels boring, it’s boring. But when you’re on the mic and on the mix, the ice comes alive.
Apply now and help us turn every skate into a show.
